The apple let go.

It didn’t fall. Not yet. It hovered, for the smallest possible fraction of time, a perfect red globe against the afternoon’s hush. Then gravity, as it always does, told its quiet truth—and the apple obeyed. Down it went, through a shimmer of air, turning slightly as it passed through the layers of sunlight and shade.

Children might say the tree let go. Philosophers might say the universe remembered its rules. But if you were standing there—beneath that crooked old tree with its bark like calloused hands—you wouldn’t say anything at all. You’d only watch, maybe hold your breath, and listen to the soft thump as it hit the grass.

That sound is older than language.

I was young when I first saw it happen—perhaps five, maybe six. My aunt had a small orchard behind the farmhouse, with trees planted in solemn little rows like soldiers who’d grown tired of war. I’d sit there with my knees drawn up, picking at the hem of my shirt, waiting for the apples to drop. They always did. Not when you expected it, but always. Sometimes with a little rustle, sometimes without. Sometimes you’d hear it in the distance and think: there goes another one. Gone back to Earth.

And I remember thinking then, with the strange seriousness that only children possess, that this was how everything worked. Things rose, things ripened, and then they fell. Not out of malice or accident, but because falling was the final act of growing.

Now, older, I sit in a garden not unlike hers, the wind shifting the leaves with that same soft murmur. The world is more complicated now—spliced into pieces by politics, spun dizzy by technology, stitched and re-stitched by people who forgot how to be still. But gravity has not forgotten. It holds the bones in our bodies. It keeps our oceans in their bowls. It pulls the moon through her patient dance. And it coaxes the apple from its branch like a lover calling home a long-lost soul.

Even the blood in our veins is moved by gravity’s hand. Not forcefully, not with violence, but with persistent kindness. A gentle tug, always downward, reminding us that we are made for earth. For ground. For rest.

When the apple hits the ground, it does not break. It simply settles. And if you leave it, the skin will slowly soften, the shine will dull, the flesh will brown. And inside, quietly, the seeds will wait. They don’t mind the fall. In fact, they need it.

That is what no one tells you: that the fall isn’t the end. It’s the beginning of the next story. You may think it’s gravity taking, but it’s really gravity giving—gathering what’s ripe, letting go of what’s ready, and burying it beneath the soil to rise again, in its time.

And so I sit here, the sun low and syrupy, the orchard breathing in the hush of late afternoon. I watch another apple twitch on its stem, the wind coaxing it like an old friend. And I know—it’s coming. The moment. The fall.

And I wonder—if, someday, when I let go, the sound will be just as soft.

The argument that Zoroastrianism influenced Judaism and Christianity is not only compelling—it’s historically and theologically potent. Zoroastrianism, founded by the prophet Zoroaster (or Zarathustra) likely between 1500 and 1000 BCE in ancient Persia, offers one of the earliest recorded religious systems that explicitly codifies a cosmic dualism: a battle between Ahura Mazda, the wise and benevolent creator, and Angra Mainyu (or Ahriman), the destructive spirit of chaos and evil. This moral duality, anchored in the concepts of light vs darkness, truth vs lie, and the final reckoning of souls, predates the solidification of similar ideas in post-exilic Judaism and certainly Christianity.

Prior to the Babylonian exile (~586 BCE), Jewish theology was largely henotheistic—Yahweh was supreme, but other gods were acknowledged. The Hebrew Bible lacks early mentions of Satan as a malevolent independent force. The character of ha-Satan in the Book of Job, for example, is not the diabolical tempter of the New Testament but more a prosecuting angel in Yahweh’s divine council. It’s only after the Jewish people’s exile and exposure to Persian culture during and after the Achaemenid Empire (notably under Cyrus the Great and Darius I) that we begin to see a shift in Jewish thought: resurrection, a final judgment, heaven and hell, angelology, and Satan as a true adversary—all start appearing in Jewish apocalyptic texts like Daniel and later in intertestamental literature.

This suggests that Zoroastrian eschatology—the war between good and evil, the messianic savior figure (Saoshyant), and the resurrection of the dead—seeded foundational ideas in Second Temple Judaism. Christianity, emerging from this post-exilic Jewish milieu, inherited and elaborated these themes into doctrines about the Devil, eternal damnation, Christ as the messianic figure, and the triumph of divine light.

The linguistic roots also tell a tale. “Satan” in Hebrew means “accuser” or “adversary,” a term that could have evolved from the broader dualistic cosmologies encountered during the Persian period. The stark dualism of the Gospel of John—“light has come into the world, but people loved darkness”—echoes Zoroastrian dichotomies more than the tribal polytheism of earlier Hebrew texts.

So while Judaism and Christianity are deeply original in their development, it is intellectually and historically plausible—perhaps inevitable—to see Zoroastrianism as a catalytic precursor, a spiritual scaffolding upon which these later faiths mounted their highest visions of salvation, cosmic justice, and eternal moral struggle. To ignore that influence is to miss the fiery torch passed through the dark corridors of human history, from the sacred fires of Persia to the altars of Jerusalem and beyond.

Influence for intellect. And policy? Oh no, my dear… that was merely a backdrop. A set dressing for the brand.

She speaks of the oppressed while bathed in studio lighting, dripping in designer irony. A Green New Deal? Hah! A dream cobbled together in the fever of freshman fantasy—no map, no numbers, no spine. Just spectacle… spectacular nonsense.

Now, don’t get me wrong. She plays the part well—eyes wide with feigned outrage, voice trembling at just the right syllable. But scratch the surface, and you won’t find revolution. You’ll find the algorithm. Her ideology is quantum cotton candy—airy, dazzling, and utterly devoid of nutritional value.

She rails against capitalism while commodifying her very existence.

She demands the dismantling of systems she doesn’t even understand.

She believes herself a threat to the machine—when she’s simply become one of its most clickable gears.

She’s not the future. She’s the trend.

And trends fade.

You see, real power doesn’t come from hashtags or headlines. It comes from substance. From quiet mastery, discipline, and thought that’s outlasted empires. But AOC? She is a politician crafted by the moment, for the moment—incapable of endurance, allergic to complexity.

She isn’t dangerous because she’s radical.

She’s dangerous because she’s easily distracted.

And history? History has no patience for performance.

So let the spotlight dim. Let the applause scatter like dust.

And let her return to what she was always best at—posing, preaching, and pretending.
