Last Dance ©️

Good morning, Cicely. Chris in the Morning here, riding the airwaves with a little soul and a lot of heart. You know, I was thinking about loss today. Not the big, cosmic kind—the galaxies spinning out their lonely dances—but the quieter kind. The kind that sneaks up on you when you’re sipping coffee or listening to a song you’d almost forgotten about. Yeah, I’m talking about losing someone.

There was this girl once. I say ‘girl,’ but she was more like a force of nature wrapped in a sundress. She walked into my life like a comet—bright, fast, and impossible to ignore. And just like a comet, she was gone before I could get a good look at her tail. But man, while she was there… she burned her initials in my soul.

People say time heals, and sure, maybe it does. But there’s a part of me that thinks we don’t need to heal everything. Some marks, you keep. They become part of who you are. She’s not in my life anymore—different paths, different rhythms—but she’s still got this little corner of my heart, rent-free. I guess that’s the thing about love; even when it’s gone, it leaves behind a glow. Like an old radio tower you can see from miles away on a clear night.

So here’s to her, wherever she is. Here’s to her laugh that still echoes in my head, and the way she tilted her head like she was trying to hear a secret from the universe. Here’s to all the people we’ve loved and lost and the spaces they’ll always occupy, no matter how much time passes.

And here’s to you, Cicely. Whatever heartaches you’re carrying, know that the scars are just stories written in the language of love. Keep them close—they’re yours. This is Chris in the Morning, signing off for now but still very much here. Stay warm, stay human.
