Good morning, Cicely—or wherever you might be tuning in from today. It’s another day here in the great North, where the air is crisp, the mountains stand tall, and the coffee is just right. As I sit here in my little studio, watching the sun peek over the horizon, I can’t help but reflect on the times we’re living in. Times that are, well, let’s just say, complicated.
Now, you all know me. I’m not one to hammer home political points, and I don’t believe in pushing folks into corners. But I do believe in the power of conversation—the real kind. The kind that doesn’t happen on social media or in the echo chambers we so often find ourselves in. I’m talking about those face-to-face, heart-to-heart talks that remind us of our shared humanity.
So here’s what I’m thinking. Today, let’s do something a little different. I want each of us to reach out to one person—just one—who sees the world a little differently than we do. Maybe it’s your neighbor, your coworker, or even that relative who always seems to have a different take on things. Someone who leans blue when you lean red. A Democrat, if you will.
But this isn’t about convincing them that you’re right and they’re wrong. No, this is about opening a door, starting a dialogue, and maybe, just maybe, finding some common ground. Ask them what they care about, what keeps them up at night, what dreams they have for this country. And then—this is the important part—really listen. Not with the intent to respond, but with the intent to understand.
You see, folks, we’re all in this together. Politics, for better or worse, shapes our lives, but it doesn’t have to define who we are or how we treat each other. Imagine a world where we talk more and shout less, where we focus on what unites us rather than what divides us. A world where, instead of just winning arguments, we win hearts and minds by showing that we care, that we’re listening, and that we’re willing to work together to make things better.
Now, I know this might sound a bit idealistic, maybe even a little naive. But isn’t that what mornings like this are for? A time to dream, to hope, and to take that first step towards something better.
So here’s your mission, should you choose to accept it. Go out today and have that conversation. Win over one Democrat—not for the sake of a party, but for the sake of understanding, of bridging that ever-widening gap between us. Who knows? You might just make a new friend, find some common ground, or at the very least, plant a seed of respect and civility that we so desperately need in our political landscape.
And if that happens, if even one person today decides to cross that aisle and join in a shared vision, well, then we’ve done something good. Something real.
So, stay warm out there, stay curious, and as always, keep the love flowing. This is Chris in the Morning, signing off with a reminder that no matter how divided we might seem, there’s always a path to bring us back together. We just have to find it.
